Vintage Postcards From The Twentieth Century Spanning 1900 To 1999

Vintage Postcards

Here are some old postcards, also known as vintage postcards, of Wareham, MA.

At one time, a trolley line ran from New Bedford to Onset right through the center of Wareham's main street which they called Main Street. Main Street is also part of Route 6 which runs all the way to California. Route Six makes an abrupt left turn just before it leaves the center of town and continues past the Wareham Town Hall on its way to the Weweantic River and Marion, MA.

I can't see any overhead wires so technically they were not trolleys. Perhaps they had engines, but they were still called street cars. Like the play "Streetcar Named Desire".

The next postcard is how Main Street, Wareham, looked in 1908. This card is over 100 years old.

Look at the long Edwardian style dresses the ladies on the sidewalk are wearing.

This card had a 2 cent postage stamp since it was going to Newfoundland, Canada. These postcards usually had a 2 cent stamp and were called penny postcards.
