"Orleans On Cape Cod Is The Only Cape Cod Town With A Foreign Name..."

Orleans, Cape Cod, Massachusetts

The last time we checked Skaket Beach charged $15 for parking, but that included Nauset Beach. It has less surf than Nauset Beach, but warmer water and a gently sloping beach. The town runs the beach, with lifeguards, parking places, and a bathhouse (sanitary facilities>.

Listen! Several good beaches are a short distance from Orleans.

Remember: the water temperature is always cooler than the Cape Cod Bay beaches because they front directly onto the Atlantic Ocean.

Harken unto me: Nauset Beach, a stretch of sand 10 miles long, is also in Orleans. A section of that beach is reserved for surfers. The surfing is OK in the summer, but comes into its own in the fall and sporing when the waves are bigger. Some brave souls surf in the winter.

Yow!

No charge at Pilgrim Lake which is a freshwater swimming hole run by the town. It has a sandy beach and clear fresh water. During the summer a lifeguard is on duty.

Be sure to visit the Fort Point off MA 6A where there is a spectacular view of the salt marshes. Follow the trails down to Nauset Marsh.

The Jonathan Young Windmill was built in 1720 and is in the center of Orleans. It overlooks Town Cove. It was moved to Hyannisport in 1897, but when Orleans asked for it back, it was moved to its presnet site in 1983.
